MARX 200 1818-2018. A long Life and Afterlife

2018 marks the 200th anniversary of Karl Marx’s birth. Our age is characterized by the rising of extremism, far- and alternative right, and the accumulation of new global problems that are not accompanied by new critical narratives for understanding. So we need to enhance and reinvent our commitment and understanding of the values of social democracy, and the future of the Left. This is incontestable in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) where the backlashes against the Left were the most intense in Europe. We are convinced that these moment provides ample opportunity to remember and rethink the heritage of Marx and post-Marxist political idea. However, contemporary social science rediscovers Marx in an ambitious manner. We are committed towards renewing the social and critical theory. On the other hand, it is important to demonstrate the CEE aspects of Marxism at international level: this CEE agenda on Marx should provide added value to the commemorations of Marx in Europe.
